The Guitar

Guitars come in many shapes and sizes, and usually have six strings. Bass guitars have 4 strings. Guitars fit into two groups:  acoustic and electric.

ACOUSTIC GUITARS

Acoustic guitars have steel or nylon strings and a hollow wooden body that vibrates. The tone, or sound of a guitar depends on a lot of things, like what it is made of, how big the body is. Acoustic guitars are played in many styles of music, including country, folk, rock, Latin, and pop.

ELECTRIC GUITARS

Electric guitars usually have solid bodies, and need to be plugged into an amplifier to make a sound. Electric guitars are played in many styles of music, including rock, pop, jazz, blues, and country music. Pickups are the part of the guitar that “pick up” the vibrations of the strings and send an electrical signal to the amplifier.
